Up There

I have been fascinated with hand painted signs for a while and on a road-trip to Amarillo with Casey last year started photographing them as a personal project. I was extremely excited to find the above documentary about sign painting on Jay Schaul’s blog this afternoon so decided to share it with all of you.     When I first moved to NYC they were painting a Delta mural on a building at 34th St and 8th Ave (http://weheartit.com/entry/2149080). I would walk by everyday on my way to work and stop to watch them paint. They handed out magnets of the mural…I ended up with quite a few! I was devastated about a year later when they painted over it. Over the next 5 years I was amazed at how many times they painted that building.
