It’s a stretch to describe this story as being design related, but its heartwarming and worth sharing none the less as there is some design involved. Martin Brooks has a daughter who after being deprived of oxygen at birth, suffered irreparable brain damage. This condition left her unable to communicate vocally or by sign language so Martin took it upon himself to develop an iPhone app that allows her to communicate effectively with her parents. It has even been shown to give the same ability to infants of 9-10 months of age who haven’t started communicating vocally either. It basically opens the communicative doors for anyone who has trouble verbalizing their wants and needs.
