As Jay B mentioned a few weeks ago, Bob Ross was definitely an inspiration, especially when I was young. He was one of the early folks that helped enforce the idea that being creative, being an artist in some respect, could be an important part of your life.
As a follow up to Jay B’s post, I thought it appropriate to post a couple of videos I recently happened upon, showing art school friend Cassie Stover painting Bob Ross in two parts: first, Mr. Ross himself, and second, a tribute to one of his nature scenes. I think Bob himself would be proud of Cassie’s techniques. I definitely see the proper technique when dealing with reflections, and her “happy trees” seem right on target. I remember her self-portrait in school being much, much better than mine. I knew I was headed for design then.
Cassie also runs her own tattoo shop / art studio in Midtown Oklahoma City called Hudson Tattoo. I think Will’s been looking for a Team Zissou tattoo. Here it is Willy Woods:
