Mondays tend to be a slow start to the week for everyone. It turns out that even the lightning videos online move slow. Check out this crazy cool slow motion timelapse of the birth and death of several lightning bolts in a thunderstorm.
A while back a friend of mine sent me this video of an airliner landing over Maho Beach in St Maarten. With the Princess Juliana International Airport being situated directly next to the beach, people often gather there to watch the massive jets fly so close overhead on their final approach. It’s all fun and games watching a 747 land 50 feet overhead until it passes you far enough to wreak havoc on the beach and sand you’re sitting on. Thomas Prior‘s photo series of the immediate aftermath is brilliant. See some selections after the jump.
Space is rad. There’s no simpler way to say it than that. I’m sad that the Shuttle is being retired and this awesome set of photos over at The Boston Globe reminds me of why. Space is rad, that’s why. Thankfully though Obama says we’re just getting started.

Australian based photo-media artist,Liesl Pfeffer, has been getting some much deserved love in the blog-o-sphere lately. Her fantastical collages are created from toy camera photos, vintage fabric and found drawings. She also shoots street scenes with Polaroid, Holga and Canon Demi cameras.
This guy named “Mr Mallon” built a pinhole camera to photograph the sun’s activity during the day. He forgot about it and left it in his backyard for several months, resulting in this bizarre but beautiful photograph of the sun’s travels through the sky. Incredible work Mr Mallon.
