Little Book, Big Ideas

Papercraft_Francois-fixed

Our friends over at Scout Books created an amazing promo piece centered on papercraft.

What grows in your Scout Book?  Insight, creativity, doodles, dreams, schemes, exciting plans, maybe even a giraffe or two.

With the immense help of Justin Scrappers MorrisonAlin DragulinJessie Bazata, Chris Funk, and many more wonderful people; the Scout Books team embarked on a papercraft adventure to help illustrate all the Big Ideas within your Scout Book.

Justin Scrappers Morrison chose paper effects to show all the magic within a Scout Book (donut! Skateboard! iphone! giraffe! cloud! letters! numbers! yes!). Each component emerging from the Scout Books was hand-crafted with different colors of paper by Justin Scrappers MorrisonJessie Bazata and their super talented team. Then, each paper sculpture was hung by fishing line and moved inch-by-inch during the photo shoot. The effect of all this incredible work? An animated explosion of fun! And a visual reminder to never underestimate the power of your ideas, or the power of developing them with a pocket-sized notebook.

Mark Menjivar Collab

Mark's Scout Book

My good friend Mark Menjivar recently went to San Francisco for an exhibition and took along one of my Scout Books by Pinball Publishing. Mark is a talented photographer, most likely the nicest guy in Texas, and apparently the owner of a sweet set of markers. This pocket sized book was originally off-set printed in black soy based ink, but Mark decided one color wasn’t enough. I really love this idea of an unintentional collaboration and Mark’s rainbow palette is especially appropriate.  If anyone decides to grab a Ultimate Reality Scout Book, then pick up some markers, snap a picture, and send it over!

Ryan Berkley Activity Book

A couple months back we all gathered around Cody’s computer when he first found Ryan Berkley’s animal illustrations. Luckily, we had the pleasure of meeting him this weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair. We gave him one of our hand stamped Scout Books which he then turned in to an activity book, featuring old men, for us to complete. We had a blast working on it. Check out the final product after the jump.

Also, thanks to Ryan and Lucy for stopping by the studio yesterday before heading out of town. Happy trails!

Renegade Preview

We’ve been going nuts this week getting ready for this weekend’s Renegade Craft Festival that we mentioned before. Today we thought we’d throw you a small preview of what will be at our booth. We’ll have mini-previews of Will’s and Jay B’s upcoming book, a new set of t-shirts printed on American Apparel, rad tote bag designs by Shaun and Justin, photo prints, a ton o posters, do it yourself Scout Books, plenty of free buttons, and free Cutie Catchers by Will. Casey and I will be shooting school portraits in a little mini-PUBLIC SCHOOL we’re doing. Come by for your close-up. Check out some pics after the jump!

The event is from 11-7 both Saturday and Sunday. It’s free to the public and hosted at the Palmer Events Center. All the details you need are on the Renegade site.
