Casey Dunn & Tribeza

dunn1

A few weeks ago, our very own Casey Dunn was asked to take photographs of various homes for the October issue of Tribeza magazine. This month his work is featured on the cover as well as across three articles. Even though creating the work during an ACL surgery recovery, the photographs deliver a sharp image of Austin’s most architecturally compelling homes. If you are in Austin, be sure to pick up a copy and if not, you can check out the magazine online. More selects after the jump.

Karla Murray – Small American Towns

Painting-Cityscape-The White Cottage

I can’t get enough of photorealistic paintings. Especially paintings of americana. Karla Murray‘s Small American Towns series is based on photographs taken by other people, as many projects like this are. Regardless of inspiration though, I find them to be beautiful.

English artist John Stezaker makes some really interesting pieces by combining old photographs with old postcards. More of his work after the jump.

Shawn Gust

Idaho photographer, Shawn Gust, takes images of soft subjects and quiet surroundings that are manageable to digest and simultaneously tell a complex story.

“Shawn searches his surroundings for feelings that trigger memories or thoughts. His images are the result of his reactions to those discoveries.”

His work is definitely worth a look.

Robert Yager: Gang Photography

I watched Champion, the documentary about actor Danny Trejo, yesterday with my girlfriend. Both of us spent most of the time cringing about the stories he had about the drugs and criminal acts he was involved in when he was a young gangster in southern California. His story turns out to be incredibly positive in the end, but is similar in many ways to the images I found today shot by photographer Robert Yager. Simply titled Gang Photography, it’s an older body of work but still very relevant. Robert’s website is somewhat of a nightmare to try to navigate through so I pulled some images from it to view here. I’d recommend clicking through to see entire body of work though. It’s an amazing project.
