One of our new years resolutions is to post more about studio news and our own work on here, so between this and the new flags we are off to a good start. This stuff is just a set of a few images I shot while in West Texas over the New Years break. The shot above is of a ridge between Study Butte and Alpine. I spent about a half a week in Alpine with my girlfriend. We camped in Big Bend one night, ate at the Gage Hotel in Marathon and spent New Years in Marfa with a couple of the other PUBLIC SCHOOL fellas.
Why haven’t I posted Daniel Shea on PS before? No excuse! I have been following his works for years now and we have actually been featured in some of the same publications and shown at the same shows. Shea has put on many solo exhibitions and has had work featured in the Wall Street Journal and Rolling Stone. His documentary work provides an abundance of information without losing the sweet and soundless relief Shea puts forth. I picked out some of my favorites after the jump but especially take the time to check out his new series “Plume.”

Doug McCune builds mountains. He builds mountains with 2009 crime data from the city of San Francisco. Their height is related to how often the specific crime took place in an area. The mountains mapped above show the occurrences of Prostitution, which compared to Larceny and Assault looks like an easy hike.
In all fairness, we’re not saying San Francisco has a crime problem. It’s just the city that Doug used for his maps. We love San Francisco!

Australian based photo-media artist, Liesl Pfeffer, has been getting some much deserved love in the blog-o-sphere lately. Her fantastical collages are created from toy camera photos, vintage fabric and found drawings. She also shoots street scenes with Polaroid, Holga and Canon Demi cameras.
