I watched Champion, the documentary about actor Danny Trejo, yesterday with my girlfriend. Both of us spent most of the time cringing about the stories he had about the drugs and criminal acts he was involved in when he was a young gangster in southern California. His story turns out to be incredibly positive in the end, but is similar in many ways to the images I found today shot by photographer Robert Yager. Simply titled Gang Photography, it’s an older body of work but still very relevant. Robert’s website is somewhat of a nightmare to try to navigate through so I pulled some images from it to view here. I’d recommend clicking through to see entire body of work though. It’s an amazing project.
Take 7 and a half minutes from your day to remember just over 500 different reasons why you fell in love with Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese’s films. When you’re done with that, skip after the jump and watch the Tarantino Vs. Coen Brothers mashup as well. There’s a bit of language in there, so keep that in mind if you’re at work.
Which of the two mashups do you prefer? We’re taking bets on the outcome.
Our friends over at Paravel Inc have published another actor in their The Many Faces of… Series. John Cusack is a great follow-up to their Alan Rickman post. Good work fellas.
Though its not nearly as famous or nearly as macabre as the Book of The Dead, The Book of Sleep is an interesting part of a much larger project by Square America to collect images from the first 3/4 of the 20th century in to one online depository. The source of the images is the endless resale shops and ebay sellers they find online. The title of this collection in particular spells out what you’ll obviously find in it. Though its not the greatest looking website around, you’d be missing the point to knock the archive on that note alone. The images are great, with the sheer number present being a feat alone. More after the jump.
