Alphabet is a wonderful animated depiction of the, well, alphabet through the use of the first letter of different famous font names. It’s great to see them drawn out and disappear almost immediately thereafter. Around here though, we feel like Futura bold was a glaring omission.
It’s always a great day when one of you favorite artists overhauls their website with a new format and a ton of new work. Today is especially one of those days because friend and fellow designer Greg Lutze has updated Must Warn Others.
Must Warn Others is a collective of freelance artists, designers, directors and friends who aim to create visual experiences that are aesthetically beautiful and practically functional.
This team is going to be unstoppable. More work after the jump.
This floor lamp made from a salvaged street lamp is incredible. I get the impression from the site that its a one of a kind, but I’m not entirely sure. If you’ve got an extra $2,400 laying around you can find out for yourself.
On the left in the image above is a promo piece Keith Davis Young and I did about 3 years ago for a party some folks were throwing at the old PUBLIC SCHOOL studio space. Three days ago I awoke to a few emails letting me know that someone had potentially ripped the image and concept off, which you can see on the right. I removed the identifying information from the top of the promo they did because the situation was solved amicably. This post isn’t about that conflict. It just brings to mind an issue I hear a lot about.
Honestly I really didn’t care that the idea was lifted. Their event was for a good cause as part of the larger Movember movement. What the situation did do was raise an important question. In an age where everything has been done before, how can we do anything new?
“All we wanted was a simple, modern world map. When our search turned up nothing but glossy posters and cheap antique reproductions, we knew it was time to design our own.”
Ohio based designers Jen Adrion and Omar Noory run the small collective, These Are Things, with wonderfully simple and well executed designs. Take the time to check out a few examples after the break and consider the US map added to my Christmas list.
