During the month of November I’ve had a small collection of work up at Progress Coffee and tonight is a bit of a closing party as well as an excuse to hang out with friends before the holidays. There will be some free adult beverages, top 40 hits (sike), artist prints, and hopefully all the kittens in town (i wish).
So tonight from 7PM – 9 PM, I will be hanging out at Progress Coffee (hopefully with you, in addition to other charming people).
Thanks to everyone who came to the After School Social we had with TRIBEZA last Thursday. Casey and I decided since it was Veterans Day that day we’d shoot some patriotic portraits of those in attendance. Here are some of our favorites. If yours isn’t here, check back tomorrow when we’ll post everything else for you to grab for yourself.
Our friend Erin Hanson stopped by the studio this week and dropped off this killer pack containing a custom Scout Book, mini 12 step program, and pencil! Ms. Recovering Lazyholic battles her sleeping disorder, called laziness, on a daily basis. She does this by following her 12 step program “to unlazy you,” which can be seen here as a mini version printed, folded, and glued to a piece of a discarded mattress. It comes packaged in a hand sewn pillow case!

A Backstory
Today is the day we’ve been working towards for the last year and a half. We haven’t been working on the “redesign” for that long, but we have been figuring out what PUBLIC SCHOOL means to us. When we started we wanted it to be a place to showcase our work along with the work of others. Initially we focused almost exclusively on art and design.
You may have noticed in the last few months though that the subject matter we post about has evolved to be more generalized. We realized that the best part about going to PUBLIC SCHOOL as a kid was the broad range of subjects and people you learned about.
We want our site to be an extension of that experience. We want it to be a reminder that along with great design and creative pursuits, there are other subjects that we should learn about as well. You can read about the rest of the details after the jump.
Austin based artist, Katy Horan, paints intricate figures created with beautiful patterns, textures, and muted tones. Her latest work shows more experimentation with looseness in larger forms, while her previous pieces tell a narrative through numerous mysterious folk figures. Listen up y’all, this lady has got the magic!
Also, earlier this month she was interviewed by the fine folks of Pikaland.
