These road trip photographs by ck/ck are phenomenal. He took them over the course of 66 day trip across the U.S. and in the process created an amazing body of work. Across America is a wonderful collection of Americana and American landscapes as viewed from a European’s perspective.
I can’t get enough of photorealistic paintings. Especially paintings of americana. Karla Murray‘s Small American Towns series is based on photographs taken by other people, as many projects like this are. Regardless of inspiration though, I find them to be beautiful.
The problem with digging around the Library of Congress‘ collections is that you can easily spend hours doing it. Sometimes you’ll find amazing stuff and sometimes you’ll see nothing but old scanned paperwork. Today though, I found a ton of American Advertising from between roughly 1840 and 1875. The type alone is just beautiful, but the illustrations are something to gawk at as well. Hours lost or not, the Library of Congress is a treasure trove of inspiration today.
More great ads after the jump.
One of our new years resolutions is to post more about studio news and our own work on here, so between this and the new flags we are off to a good start. This stuff is just a set of a few images I shot while in West Texas over the New Years break. The shot above is of a ridge between Study Butte and Alpine. I spent about a half a week in Alpine with my girlfriend. We camped in Big Bend one night, ate at the Gage Hotel in Marathon and spent New Years in Marfa with a couple of the other PUBLIC SCHOOL fellas.
Great things don’t come easily, which is something to keep in mind as we all try to tackle our New Years resolutions. This holds especially true for some of America’s greatest icons. Mount Rushmore, The Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty all took time to build. Check out a those and a few other American icons midway through their construction, a state most people aren’t familiar with, after the jump.
