It’s Time
A simple, thought provoking, and wonderfully produced video on marriage.
In a great oversight on our part, we have never featured the work of Ty Wilkins. I just ran across this poster he did for a design lecture he did at UNT here in Texas in October, and it’s a good reason to also show some other stuff he’s done. I’m particularly fond of his work for Target, which you can see after the jump.
To inspire a discussion about the smoking ban in Belgium, photographer Frieke Janssens, produced this portrait series of different prototypical smokers depicted by children. She was inspired after seeing the video of the Indonesian baby who was hooked on smoking. She was struck by the American reaction of being repulsed, compared to the overall Indonesian reaction of considering it normal. See the rest after the jump. Apparently the cigarettes were some sort of “dummy” cigarette, so keep those pitchforks stowed away.
I always love watching old predictions of what the future would hold. This one from the 1930s on the fashion of 2000 is reasonable in some parts, and just plain sexist/creepy in others. It did hit the “no shaving” for men right on the head though, if only by missing by about 10 years. The men’s “candy belt” prediction may be the weirdest.
Since we’re already talking about the importance of personal work, I think sharing this beautifully produced short film by Tom Jenkins is pertinent. “Address is Approximate” is the story of a lonely desk toy who desires a bit more visual stimulus than his current surroundings can deliver. Utilizing Google Street maps, he “hits the open road”.
Apparently you've read through all of the note cards. Good work.
