PUBLIC SCHOOL is a group of creative folk working on the east side of Austin together, yet not together. The same studio, different professions. Similar tastes, varying favorite Bob Dylan song. Consistently unified love for the Mexican food on the east side of town.
Our collective and individual clients include Chronicle Books, Conde Nast, Sweet Leaf Tea, Iron and Wine, Baylor University, Ogilvy & Mather, LIVESTRONG, Pearson Publishing, Stussy, Time Inc., NIKE, The University of Texas, The Sunday Times of London, as well as a few other folks.
Jay B designed some posters to with some lessons to live by and things to keep in mind. He said his elementary teachers used to post a lot of posters with cheesy inspirational sayings growing up and just wanted to pay the favor forward. Check out the rest of the series after the jump or head here to purchase.
Jay B was recently contacted by an ad agency in Europe to use one of his photos for an outdoor ad campaign. This is the final product he received this morning. We are told “70% MAZIAU. KAINOS.” is lithuanian for “70% less price”. We know a little bit of spanish and zero lithuanian, so that could say anything for all we know. We just nod our heads and say sure.
These little books are full of white pages ready to be made priceless by you, or him, or her, or that guy across the street. Basically, Shaun’s new project is dedicated to the creatives who create solely for the sake of creativity. Check it out…
Casey was asked to photograph the new project by Liz Lambert, who also developed the San José in Austin and El Cosmico in Marfa. Billed the Hotel St. Cecilia, it has a mix of tastes that can only successfully be brought together by Lambert’s refined yet eclectic design sense. Every room comes with a Geneva sound system and record player, on which you can play some of the extensive music collection which is available to check out while you’re checked in as a guest.
Jay B recently photographed rock supergroup, the Arc Angels, for their upcoming album and dvd release. Pictured above is Chris Layton, of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, notoriety.
Currently on tour with Eric Clapton, the band will make its way to Europe for most of May until coming back stateside in early June. Check out their tour dates here.
As mentioned a few days ago, Cody recently finished photographer Matt Rainwaters’ identity. Here’s a look at the cards. Yes, the logo is an embossed afro. Read more »
Another of Justin’s posters, this one for Ratatat (pronounced Rat-Uh-Tat), are back from the printer. C3 and the band grabbed a few from him for personal keeping. We’re doing the same here at the studio. Long live the ampersand schwa, and dueling guitar dance bands.
Jay B began working on his next show which will be debuting some time this summer, titled Shift Work. He will be photographing the area surrounding his hometown of La Porte, Texas which is home to some of the world’s largest oil and chemical refineries. The only thing more dependable than our country’s need for oil and chemicals is these refineries’ orange night glow.
These colognes based off prominent figures throughout the history of literature are spectacular. The product is beautiful, and the inspiration behind it very intriguing.
Just came across these videos which focus on Cody’s favorite designer, Stefan Sagmeister. If you like it, check out the rest of the “Designing Minds” series on Zoom In Online’s YouTube Channel. Sadly, it looks like Zoom In Online’s website no longer hosts its design-focused content.
The rest of the Sagmeister segment is embedded after the jump.
I have never had the urge to knit anything, but I have had the urge to buy one of these knit meat pieces from S.Casper. Sadly that won’t be happening since they are all sold out on the Etsy link provided. Until then I can only wish. Check out the fish head and sausage links after the jump.
14.2 miles of string outlining 25 letters on 2,500 eyelets strung by hand by 18 artists, designers, fashion designers, copywriters, and art directors from Portland. This 18 person art show comprised of the familiar faces of Jelly Studio, Kate Bingaman-Burt, Justin Scrappers and Aaron Rayburn provides an amazing look into the collaborative process.
“18 humans created something that one person couldn’t. 18 busy people, that didn’t have time to spare, spared, made, fretted, and showed up. That’s enough, actually, everything else is bonus.” - Aaron Rayburn

Brent Funderburk is an incredibly talented artist and gifted teacher. Brent was my painting professor at Mississippi State and had an huge impact on me as an artist. He’s one of the people that makes you a better person by just being around him.
Funderburk’s watercolor paintings are vivid, dynamic, and full of lush detail. Just recently he’s made some of his multilayered paintings available as limited editioned giclée prints (available here).
25 years ago today we were reminded that We Are The World. That we are the children. Enjoy the star studded music video from the charity single that was released. After the jump is an epic performance by Queen, as well as David Bowie and Simple Minds from that worldwide concert.
The extremely rad Johnny Cupcakes surprised us with an email requesting our info so that Santa could deliver us package full of awesome! Thanks Johnny, you totally made our day!
I was on the fence when I heard that Stephen Shore recently shot for the new Urban Outfitters fall catalog… But after viewing the work I was reminded how Shore’s consistent and superb style hold strong, no matter the job. I think these photos are a good break from what UO has be using in past issues and look forward to seeing it in actual print.
Motivation. On Monday mornings, it can be a hard thing to come by. Here’s a ray of hope for you then: if watching this little girl shred doesn’t make you feel like you can accomplish anything you put your mind to, I don’t know what will. Fair warning, though: watch it too many times and this little girl might make you feel that if she’s able to do this at age 5, you’re WAY behind. I mean WAY WAY behind.
