New People and New Photos

trunk_show-45_Edit

Jay B has a slew of new work coming out soon some of which is up on his site now. The upper education folk in particular have taken a liking to his style (University of Texas at Austin and Baylor Law School) and recently asked him to shoot some portrait projects for them. The new work includes some selections from those projects as well as other interesting people (like the Jonathan look-alike above) that he has photographed lately.

Check them out.

Will is honored among 16 other creatives as a “Rising Star.” Pick up a copy and see the full page article on this energetic illustrator. There’s also a feature on his alma mater Mississippi State; naming it as one of the top under the radar design programs. Also, check out interviews with some of the Rising Stars on the HOW blog.

Check out the current issue of Austin Monthly Home. Casey’s recent shoot for them earned the cover feature spot. The home has a nice mix of outdoor and indoor spaces. It’ll be on the shelves for three months so cruise by Whole Foods or one of the other bookstores (preferably a local one) and grab a copy.

A Face With The Name: Matt Rainwaters

Matt Rainwaters

I (Jay B) recently started work on a series of portraits for our blog, this being the first one in the series. We spend a lot of time talking about the artists whose work we enjoy and spend little time showing the artists themselves. I’ve got a slew of them lined up in the coming weeks. Some of those that have either been photographed or are scheduled to be included are the folks over at The Decoder Ring, Adam Voorhes, and Armin and Bryony of UnderConsideration. Of course I’m always up for suggestions as well.

The stately gentleman pictured above is our dear old pal Matt Rainwaters, who is a fantastic photographer and purveyor of some of the finest tamales in town. His work has been featured in magazines such as Texas Monthly and Esquire UK as well as being featured on our blog several times before. His best known project is the aptly named Beardfolio.

Most importantly though, Matt is a great guy. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who disagrees with me on that.

Daily Data Consumption

Daily Data Consumption

If you haven’t seen this yet, you’re missing out. The daily data consumption of Americans nowadays is something I’d assume is astounding. Between Ashton’s Twitter updates, Southwest’s Ding! notifications, and random videos of people doing terrible gymnastics we consume a lot of stuff during the day. GOOD Blog’s graphic detailing this is pretty rad.

See the post here.

Haiti Benefit

Haiti Benefit

Our friends from Rare are putting on a benefit for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Swing by tonight to have a drink, hang with us, and help the cause, all in one fell swoop.

Science is Cool

Earth Poster

I’m filing these under “Things I wish I knew I wanted for Christmas about a month ago”. I just found them today and am in love. Ross Berens designed these beautiful informational posters that make me wish I was 8 years old again and going to Space Center Houston with my Dad.
