With the stigma that is attached to littering in general, I have always been baffled by the disregard smokers have for disposing of cigarette butts by just throwing them on the ground. To combat this, local Austin studio, The Butler Bros produced this wonderfully creative spot for Legacy’s initiative to fight this kind of litter. The New York Times wrote an article about the overall fight as well. I recommend a quick read.
This Life On Mars video by Lukas Vojir is pretty snazzy. I don’t know about you, but it definitely makes me want to move to Mars. This whole Earth thing is kinda played out. The Red Planet is where it’s at.
Disney’s Oscar nominated short animated film Paperman is a wonderful return to their old hand drawn methods. The description of the YouTube video doesn’t go in to much detail about how exactly it was produced, but it does mention that it’s a blending of both hand drawn sketches and computer animation.
I have been seeing HTML5 used in increasingly interesting ways recently for the purpose of storytelling. The New York Times’ new piece titled Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek does just that and is simply amazing. Using parallax design, it blends photography, flyovers, and animations to push long-form journalism in hopefully the direction that more stories will go.
I was going to try to explain this video, but decided that I can’t, so won’t try. It was directed by Kevin Parry and shot by Andrea Nesbitt for Kalle Mattson. When you’re done watching the video, check out the cool animated gif gallery of the effects they created here.
