José Castrellón – Priti Baiks

jcastrellonchimbilincermeo2010

In Panama where people’s finances are limited, these men spent what little they have to decorate their bicycles as a representation of their personality. José Castrellón travelled around trying to find several of them and produced this series he calls “Priti Baiks“. See more after the jump.

Self Pop Tart

Mirror self-portraits are sort of weird, but are way weirder when you swap out the phone for a pop-tart. The Self Pop Tart Tumblr is a testament to that.

Smoking Kids

Frieke+Janssens_7

To inspire a discussion about the smoking ban in Belgium, photographer Frieke Janssens, produced this portrait series of different prototypical smokers depicted by children. She was inspired after seeing the video of the Indonesian baby who was hooked on smoking. She was struck by the American reaction of being repulsed, compared to the overall Indonesian reaction of considering it normal. See the rest after the jump. Apparently the cigarettes were some sort of “dummy” cigarette, so keep those pitchforks stowed away.

Toddlers & Tiaras

photo

A few weeks back I was asked by The Daily to cover the filming of an episode of Toddlers & Tiaras where one of their writers would be embedded as a guest judge. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The story was published today and is definitely worth a read and also includes a . It’s cheeky and in general follows the same sentiment I had towards the whole experience. The author, Rich Juzwiak, has the longer unedited version on his blog as well. My take on it is here. After the jump are some of the images that didn’t run in the final version.

What do you think about child beauty pageants and the T.V. show?
