Better Together

DDPblog

On the verge of SXSW, I imagine most of you are storing up on sleep and over-hydrating in preparation for late nights and a two week diet consisting only of free beer and liquor (and an occasional breakfast taco if you’re lucky).  So, since you’ll be good and rested, kick off this SXSW with a good old fashioned dance party… in the middle of the street!  No RSVP needed, no guest lists, no cover…just grab a boombox and have fun. (details after the jump)

Dress Your Resumé For The Job You Want

MK-BR829_RESUME_G_20120123183012

I could write a whole slew of posts about this subject matter, and maybe I will one day when I’ve got the time, but for now I’ll send you to the Wall Street Journal. They’ve got a great article on the ins and outs of applying for a job at a big organization. Long story short, they are saying you need to tailor your resumé a bit for each employer to help make it through some of the automated resumé filters people are using nowadays. Software motivations aside, this is a good idea either way. You should always tell people who you are and what you’re capable of with a resumé, but more importantly it should hint at why you’re completely suited for the job you’re applying for. Check out the whole article here.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

This animated film is truly spectacular. What’s more awesome, is that it is supplementary to an interactive story as an iPad app. The short film is up for an Oscar, and rightly so.  If you have some time, give it a watch. Book lovers, try not to cry.   Watch it here.

You Are Your Own

show

Public School partner, Mattew Genitempo, will be showing a selection of his recent work in a joint exhibit this Friday at the Flex Space Gallery. The work will be presented along side sculptor Travis LaMothe under the title You Are Your Own, which as a a collection, explores the interaction between the individual and nature.

Over the past couple of months Matt has shaped this body of work into something really special. If you are in Austin, it will definitely be worth the trip across town. The opening is from 8-10 this Friday and will run until the 21st.

Flex Space is here: 1109 Shady Lane, Austin, TX 78702

Benefit for Wyatt McSpadden

mcspadden-save-the-date_v1692

Our friends from down the street at Charla Wood’s studio, along with a handful of other local business, will be hosting a photographic benefit for Wyatt McSpadden this Friday. Wyatt has been one of the best photographers in town for decades, and helped pave the way for my generation of shooters in a smaller Austin Market. He also shot a book on Texas BBQ that gives me “photo envy” on a regular basis for not having had the idea.

The benefit will have a silent auction including prints from Dan Winters, Platon, Keith Carter, and about two dozen other renowned photographers from across the country. Benefits will go towards the Wyatt’s medical fund.
