This animated film is truly spectacular. What’s more awesome, is that it is supplementary to an interactive story as an iPad app. The short film is up for an Oscar, and rightly so. If you have some time, give it a watch. Book lovers, try not to cry. Watch it here.
Public School partner, Mattew Genitempo, will be showing a selection of his recent work in a joint exhibit this Friday at the Flex Space Gallery. The work will be presented along side sculptor Travis LaMothe under the title You Are Your Own, which as a a collection, explores the interaction between the individual and nature.
Over the past couple of months Matt has shaped this body of work into something really special. If you are in Austin, it will definitely be worth the trip across town. The opening is from 8-10 this Friday and will run until the 21st.
Flex Space is here: 1109 Shady Lane, Austin, TX 78702
Our friends from down the street at Charla Wood’s studio, along with a handful of other local business, will be hosting a photographic benefit for Wyatt McSpadden this Friday. Wyatt has been one of the best photographers in town for decades, and helped pave the way for my generation of shooters in a smaller Austin Market. He also shot a book on Texas BBQ that gives me “photo envy” on a regular basis for not having had the idea.
The benefit will have a silent auction including prints from Dan Winters, Platon, Keith Carter, and about two dozen other renowned photographers from across the country. Benefits will go towards the Wyatt’s medical fund.

Imagine if all of your close friends on facebook pitched a couple bucks for you on your birthday or some other special event, and all those small contributions combined into one large gift. One new startup aims to help you do just that. Public School’s own, Shaun, moved to San Francisco a few months back to work on a start-up called giftiki, and they recently released their first version. We think he did an amazing job on the design, and the concept is killer too. There is also a mobile app coming out soon. Clearly, Shaun hasn’t done much sleeping lately. Check out more on giftiki after the jump.
