Our very own Jay B Sauceda was asked recently by the curatorial board of Pecha Kucha to speak about his work for the next Pecha Kucha Night. It’ll be taking place next Thursday, November 17th, at 916 Springdale, which is the old Goodwill Warehouse on the east side. It starts at 8:20, but as usual it’ll be a packed out so get there early. Other presenters include Bale Creek Allen, Will Hornaday, Robert Craft, Andrew Yates, and Mike Wolf.

Casey Dunn & Tribeza

dunn1

A few weeks ago, our very own Casey Dunn was asked to take photographs of various homes for the October issue of Tribeza magazine. This month his work is featured on the cover as well as across three articles. Even though creating the work during an ACL surgery recovery, the photographs deliver a sharp image of Austin’s most architecturally compelling homes. If you are in Austin, be sure to pick up a copy and if not, you can check out the magazine online. More selects after the jump.

Holy Batcow!

Batcow poster rd1-2

A couple of weeks ago DJ Stout of Pentagram Austin asked me to photograph his recent brainchild, Batcow for a poster he was working on with Stu Taylor. What is Batcow you ask? It is a large winged cow hanging from the Congress Bridge and is DJ’s submission to the Austin Cow Parade. To celebrate Batcow, he is having a little shindig for some of Pentagram’s friends and this poster was the invitation. It’s a two sided, and though I’m fond of this side with my photograph, the back is epic. See it after the jump.

Among Giants

We are super flattered to be the Critic’s Pick for Best Eye On Design in The Austin Chronicle’s yearly Best of Austin awards! We’re lucky to get to do what we enjoy for a living and even more lucky to get to do it in this city we call home. Here’s the nice little writeup they did on us.

Apparently it isn’t enough that the supercreative types that make up this Eastside design collective are crazy-talented: They want to sing the praises of other artists, too? Their stylishly assembled blog shines a light on local and international graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, poster mavens, experimental filmmakers, and just about anybody else the Public School gang thinks is doing good work. A+, guys.

Beard

BEARD_posters_PRINT

Our buddy Matt Rainwaters is having a book release and signing party at Domy on Wednesday, October 5th, for his new book, titled Beard. For those of you who are unfamiliar, here’s the description by Chronicle Books, who published the book:

Hundreds of bearded men strutted their stuff at the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Anchorage, Alaska, and photographer Matthew Rainwaters was there to capture it all. This resulting collection of portraits features the bushiest, most stylish, and downright weirdest beards from around the world. Taken straight on, the photographs are stark and stunning the beards speak for themselves. Alongside the images are essays by several of the championship competitors, including $teven Ra$pa and his beard Prepostero. A magnificent showcase of chops, bristles, and whiskers, this book belongs on the shelf of any true facial hair connoisseur.

If you’re in Austin, be sure to make it out. Limited edition wrap-around covers will be produced for the first 50 books. And beer. Free beer. Good free beer.
