Site Relaunch

PUBLIC SCHOOL
A Backstory

Today is the day we’ve been working towards for the last year and a half. We haven’t been working on the “redesign” for that long, but we have been figuring out what PUBLIC SCHOOL means to us. When we started we wanted it to be a place to showcase our work along with the work of others. Initially we focused almost exclusively on art and design.

You may have noticed in the last few months though that the subject matter we post about has evolved to be more generalized. We realized that the best part about going to PUBLIC SCHOOL as a kid was the broad range of subjects and people you learned about.

We want our site to be an extension of that experience. We want it to be a reminder that along with great design and creative pursuits, there are other subjects that we should learn about as well. You can read about the rest of the details after the jump.

The Redesign

We see this design as a refinement of the direction the site was already moving in. This column will continue to be the place where you’ll learn about the random things that interest us, as well as the great work being produced that we find out about.

The Note Cards column will now be the where you can find out about the little things we find throughout the day, as well as random facts and messages from our readers. If there’s something you think should be included in there be sure to let us know.

That column will also be the centralized place where you will see who the article is written by, as well as the direct link to the artist or subject that we are featuring. We also want to clean up the content by listing our sources there as well.

Comments have been moved back down to the bottom to make room for greater discussion about the things we’ll be posting in the coming months.

Why The Ads?

You may be curious why we added space for ads. As many of you know, this isn’t our full time job. The site has grown an incredible amount over the last year and with it the costs of serving it to our readers. The Audio Documents eat up a ton of bandwith (which is a good problem to have) but aren’t something we want to stop doing. We’ll be selling tasteful ads to companies we dig and giving some space away to causes we support. We’ll always make our best effort to make sure they’re tasteful and not annoying. If there’s ever anything that’s driving you insane, please let us know.

Thank You

Ultimately though, this redesign took place because we value the community that has been built around the site. We love the people we have been introduced to and heard from over the last year and a half. We believe in continual growth and improvement and wanted to take the next step in producing the best content we can. This is the product of that goal.

As always, we appreciate your attention and loyalty to our blog. We enjoy producing it and hope you enjoy consuming it.
